“Pieces of My Mind”
…a weekly column about ordinary things from an other than ordinary viewpoint.”
Nancy Babcock, author of Pieces of My Mind, has had a variety of life experiences to give her a broad overview of both the usual and unusual. She finds that even the usual often has unusual perspectives when looked at from a different point of view. Looked at that way, the usual can become quite odd.
Her columns speak of a wide variety of everyday subjects from valet parking to buying toothpaste, sitting at a red light, making pickles, acquiring a credit card, or clearing clutter. Occasionally there is a philosopher’s bent as in “The Slippage of Now” or “The Dorothy Syndrome”–a commentary on The Wizard of Oz.
Her topics are chosen from the myriad of things that happen to us all, so everyone–or nearly everyone–can relate and then ask him/herself, “why haven’t I thought of that?”
Intended to amuse but often also to rouse and rattle, the columns in Pieces of My Mind make readers think of what has been in front of them all along–perhaps taken for granted, but likely never noticed. A wry look at everyday life that will make the previously unremarkable become thought provoking, Pieces of My Mind spells out how often the most obvious is so easily overlooked.
